The word yoga is a Sanskrit word which means union. To unite our self or spirit with the Divine. Physical and mental exercises have been used in the past to acheive enlightenment, self realisation or Moksha. Physical exercises (asanas) were performed to purify the body, align the spine to ready the body and person for enlightenment.

Originating in India as long as 5000 years back a student would study with a guru or teacher, sometimes going through severe hardships to receive the enlightenment. Few guru’s had the true enlightenment and the ones that did, didn’t know how to pass it on to their students but did know some things that helped like: The yoga postures, non smoking non drinking lifestyle. diet and detachment.

You see the kundalini is a very pure, innocent energy (like a new born baby) which is located inside everyone, in the tailbone. This is why yoga is meant to purify the channels and mind, so this pure energy can rise up the spine and out of the top of the head – which is the “yoga”

The method of meditation we do is called Sahaja Yoga which means – spontanious union. We don’t do yoga postures but focus on the movement of Kundalini which gets awakened. When you come to one of our free classes we sit in chairs or on the floor, which ever is comfortable for you. You will receive the Kundalini awakening but if you don’t establish a meditation routine –  the energy will slowly disapear and it will go to sleep again.

Many people have taken to yoga and meditation and are enjoying lower stress and a healthier lifestyle. I for one am happy meditating in my chair or sitting on the floor and don’t think I’ll ever be seen in postures like the photo above.   gP
